In East Africa, the rising elephant population in the parks and preserves has led the herds to wander into villages and destroy farms and homes and even kill the locals. The villagers too have encroached into territories demarcated for the tuskers and aggravated the existing man-elephant conflict. To quell the violence, conservationists have come up with a cheap and simple solution of using chilies as its smell acts as a deterrent against the pachyderms. Can the hot and spicy fruit ensure peaceful coexistence between humans and elephants?
